Welcome to The
Florida Grade-Level Reading Campaign (FGLRC) Attendance & Chronic Absence Toolkit
A comprehensive resource designed to support efforts to improve student attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism across Florida.
For more than a decade, the Florida Grade-Level Reading Campaign has partnered with local communities, school districts, and statewide organizations to address the persistent challenge of student absenteeism. Regular school attendance is essential to academic achievement, on-time graduation, workforce readiness, and long-term success in life. In contrast, chronic absenteeism can have significant and lasting effects on students, families, schools, employers, and communities.
During the 2025-2026 school year, FGLRC convened local Grade-Level Reading Campaign communities and statewide partners to identify barriers to improved attendance, share effective strategies, and develop collaborative solutions. Through this collective effort, we assembled this toolkit as a practical and user-friendly collection of resources, tools, and promising practices that have proven valuable in supporting attendance improvement efforts across the state.
Within this toolkit, you will find curated research, reports, presentations, webinars, websites, implementation tools, and evidence-informed practices designed to support district and school personnel, families, community partners, and education advocates. These resources are intended to help stakeholders strengthen attendance initiatives and reduce chronic absenteeism throughout Florida’s PK-12 education system.
This toolkit is also intended to serve as a living resource. New materials, tools, success stories, and emerging practices will be added each semester as we continue to learn from educators, researchers, communities, and attendance champions across Florida and beyond.
We extend our sincere appreciation to our partners at Helios Education Foundation, the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations, and the many local, state, and national partners who have contributed their expertise, innovative strategies, practical guidance, and unwavering commitment to this work. Their collaboration has been instrumental in addressing this complex challenge and advancing solutions that benefit students, families, educators, and communities.
Together, we can ensure that more Florida students attend school consistently, remain engaged in learning, and have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
